Hint brushes are not really suited for outdoor environments (to be more precise, the bsp structure genesis3d is using is not suited for outdoor environments no matter how you try to optimize it) That's too bad. Is anyone working on modifying Genesis3d to run outdoor environments better? It seems th...

What I am trying to say is, it's not as important to make a game as it is to know how the underlying technology of the game works. If you are planning to do this as a career, ask yourself this question: "Would companies like EA, Blizzard, Ubisoft or Take2 hire me over someone with a 4 year deg...

All this stupid copy-protection in a lot of newer PC games such as Steam and other net activation and rootkits causes me to get the console versions. Just get the Xbox360 version. I finally got it and Bioshock is awesome. It's basically a remake of System Shock 2 (1999) except SS2 is in a space stat...

well, I don't know about RF, but Tomb raider chronicles was made with genesis3d. seriously? What about the previous Tomb Raider games? Fighting Force? Death Trap Dungeon? I was at the devmaster.net forums and there was an old RF article and it had a lot of good reviews from people from here,.. and ...

RF may not have the power or flexability of a commercial engine,.. but I doubt most of us here would be able to make a game with a commercial engine because they require programming. RF is a very powerful and flexable engine for non-programmers. So compare RF with other "engines for noobs"...

triggered character spawning

When you make a level,.. do the enemies have to be present from the start, or can you make trigger spots where if you walk through it more enemies spawn somewhere in the map? That way you don't lag the game from having all enemies loaded from the start?

I agree. RF is easy simply because Genesis3D is easy. Although it is better than G3D in my personal oppinion. I've seen a lot of comercial engines, running from $1000 to $10000 and none of them could stand up to RF, and none of the ones I saw was even as powerful as RF. :D So great work DEV team!!!...

my advise to you is if you havnt got any experience and no one to work with look for a mod team, people who make changes to a game, become a modeler or texture artist in the team, they will hopefuly suport you and help you and because its not a full game its not demanding and can be acompleshed by ...

My advice is to keep it simple learn the scripting language as soon as possible. Also, then you can write your own enemy AI instead of using the scripts that come with RF. I'm starting to scare the crap out of myself with all the stuff I'll have to learn. The scripting seems like it will be easier ...

Prehistoria: Caveman games are cool!! ooga booga!!!

When I download RF this weekend (along with any 3d modeling software and other progs that I may need) I will probebly spend several months if not a whole year just learning and following tutorials and finding the limits of the engine that will dictate my game design. But,.. I've already got some ide...

I always seem to join forums that are empty of activity. oh well. I have not even downloaded RF and all the other files yet. I'll do that this weekend. I'm still doing research on what problems to expect and to see what the engine is capable of. I've got some sketchy ideas already of my first game. ...

Re: Which version of RF is the best?

4. (hub level system) whats what? i never played those games A Hub level system is where you have several levels linked together by "load zones" and you can go back and forth between different levels to give the illusion of one giant level. Basically you start on level 'a' and in level 'a...

Which version of RF is the best?

Hey ya'll!!! I just discovered Reality Factory and it sounds like what I need to make games for fun. (Light on the programming. The closest thing to programming I've ever done is modifying some of the script files in STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl. Basically just changing numerical values to stuff lik...
