Yes, this engine is based upon a very old 3D engine, and can not 'truly' be compared to modern engines which have been built AFTER the newest technology has been developed. It's apples and oranges. I'm not dissing RF. :D We're discussing RF games in retail and my point is that any "mainstream genre...

My reply was interpreted as confrontational? I guess I'd better start putting smilies in every post.

Re: RF is the best

Can you please be more specific? How much time did you spend with it? Did you read any of the documentation? In what ways does it not live up to RF?

RF CAN compete. It just reqirest time and some better graphics than the current textures, so You create your own textures, And do a little bit of editing and BAM! Current quality game. Also, when RF2 comes out, It'll be capable of way more than the original RF. I'm talking about the absense of HDR,...

Well, There is some stuff you can do. I mean, Something like Half-Life or Halo would be actually pretty easy on RF. We plan to commercially publish Our games, my team has sugggested using something othr than RF for this, but my loyalties lie with RF and I hope to convince them otherwise when RF2 is...

I only have dial-up internet and I'm out of range to get DSL. So I only play singleplayer in any game. I liked BF Vietnam and BF 2,... so I was excited about BF2142,.. but then I found our that BF2142 requires net activation so I had to steer clear of it.

no, rf dont use the graphics cards functions at all, i do belive but stand to be corrected the only use for the grphics card with rf is its memory I swear the demos that are available in RF don't use software renderer. It looks 3d accelerated to me. The textures are smooth and I see no pixels. Are ...

About HDR or Bloom. You can't reproduce the specular effects of HDR on surfaces or glare,... but RF does support dynamic lighting and with the right tones and intensity,.. you can give it the appearance of real sunlight. If you are really good at texturing you could add fake specular or glare to the...

I thought RF already supported graphics hardware. Unless you're talking about the map editor, which uses software renderer only.

I'm getting X-Com vibes from your game. That's a good thing. Like if Microprose released a Quake style X-Com game in the mid-90's.

RF games cannot commercially compete with the current standard of technology in the realm of action or RPG games for PC. On the other hand,.. casual games for the PC do not rely on cutting edge technology. There is also a big market for casual pc games. Most of them are puzzle-oriented with little a...

It's going to be a while before I start learning to model, texture and animate. First I'll have to learn my way around RF, the editors, and the scripting. But at the same time I like to work out details of my "target" game. I have an 8-hour day job,.. so this is going to take a while. One problem I ...

That's nice to know. In FPScreator there was a trigger just for spawning something when you walked through the area you filled with the clear cube. I used it to spawn more and more enemies just out of view as the player moved through the level.

Either way...isn't it better to know how things work even if it's a hobby? That's like playing baseball and not knowing how to play properly. You can get hurt. ;) That's what the tutorials are for. You may not learn the inner-workings of Genesis3d,.. but you'll know how RF works and be able to use ...
