Andy what do you mean with RF2? Do you mean Reality Factory 2? If you do aren't RF on version 0.75 now?
The level editor in the book is it similiar to RFs current editor?

Acctually Blender is almost as good as other 3D packages. Blender is opensource so if there is some feuture rhat is missing just write it on the Blender forum.
