Dreams in games

I started exactly same thread on gamespot, but since the crowd down there's very unlikely to respond, I'm reposting it here: As interesting as they are, dreams have been used in very few games to date. It's a pity, for they would provide excellent setting for a computer game, given that the designer...

I'm not sure, but I think you'll have to look into the scripting. Simkin allows for storing attributes for most of the game entities, so it should have functionality you're looking for.

I agree with Robin. Blender, once learnt, is faster and more intuitive than any other 3d modelling package out there - in my opinion at least. I tried GMax, but was put down by its interface quickly... I think that - while not necessary - support for Blender would be a nice addition.

Any free c++ library would do. Why not try and code your game in SDL or Allegro?

Making models from pictures??? I gather you speak of displacement techniques - that is, displacing the vertices according to texture... I can hardly imagine that you can make a 2d picture, load it into modeller, and watch the program transform it to 3d model... EDIT: Oh, foolish me! You speak of loa...

I'll tightly hold to opinion I've already expressed: it's the idea that makes the game. Polygon count and sophisticated physics systems won't compensate for lack of ideas. That's why games written back in 1989, like "Hidden agenda", still work, while most of the hyped contemporary producti...

I can't sleep... Because of INSOMNIA

I followed link from Irrlicht3d blog and found THIS: http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=374815 Obviously work of two guys operating outside of mainstream industry. Although I might be wrong. This way or another, it's a feast for eyes. Wonder how many thousands of dollars will...

Yup. What's makes this all even more sad is that I recently got my impatient hands on Irrlicht - only to find I'm unable to test most advanced features of the engine (like parallax mapping) due to aforementioned card problems. Irrlicht itself, however, works fine... Writing a simple app with FPS-lik...

Sad truth about hardware limitations

I recently found that my poor GeForce4 MX 440 can't handle new programable shaders, so all the state-of-art graphic features - like real-time bump mapping - are off for me till I upgrade. That's both sad and funny, for when I saw specular mapping in "House of shadows" I mistook it for bump...
