Re: Python 3.0 breaks old code (v2.6 is transition python)

Andy! PLEASE don't change RF2 to Python 3.xx, I can't handle any version of python other than 2.5 or 2.6!

Thanks

Re: Linux

It should work just fine! Just follow the windows instructions, but of course substitute CodeBlocks or your favorite C++ IDE for Visual Studio 2005 and build all dependencies from scratch using apt-get. done.

Re: An offer of programming assistance.

I know I wasn't involved in this conversation, but I do have one thing to add. While I am a devout Mac hater, I would love to see RF2 ported to the Mac. The reason I say this is that in the Open Source spirit, all platforms must be supported equally. Hell, without that, I wouldn't be able to run Lin...

Re: ModelStateModifier (bug or something)

That's odd, the jump pads in the .76 techdemo work fine, although they occasionally catapult you outside the map. You should PM the Dev team (all of them) and ask to look at the demo map source.

Re: Compiling RF2 on Windows

Thanks for the status update, It just occured to me that I don't need to know how to compile RF, as by the time it is usable Andy will have precompiled binarys.

Re: Google Chrome

Firefox is very smart about its memory. If you PC has 512 MB to spare, Firefox will limit itself to 300. For example on my old laptop, which had only 256 MB of RAM total, Firefox never used more that 50 MB, even when watching videos. Any excessive memory usage you may see is not a leak, but an attem...

Re: Google Chrome

I love firefox... But it crashes too much when watching lots of videos. I've also seen it taking up to 300 some meg of memory, when I've already closed out videos. It has poor memory management. If they will adapt some of the background technology google chrome is using, maybe not the look. I think...

Re: Python/Java?

Java does more, but Python is way easier. I went with Python, but if you can find the time to learn a C-type language, then you should go with Java.

Re: 3D animation

What about the softimage mod tool? It is an all-in-one modeling, texturing and animation studio that exports to hl2 models. It doesn't do any prerendering, but the animation can be played back in garrys mod and captured via sourcerecorder at a fair quality. You can also concert the models to an acto...
