Updated Demo online

Apologies for the slow framerate in the demo. John took a look through and found a bug in the way ODE was processing the physics - we're not sure why we didn't notice this before, but either way, an updated demo is now online. Where the demo was getting about 30 fps on my laptop, now it's getting ov...

hmmm

we didn't spend a whole lot of time optimizing the content - our machines in the office are somewhat...fast apparently. runs at over 30 fps on my laptop, but I would hardly consider it to be an 'average' machine... you might try tweaking some of the settings in the config.cfg file to see if you can ...

version

GDGi used to provide bundled versions of Reality Factory with preconfigured weapons etc to give newer users a quicker headstart with creating their own games, but since then, we are no longer offering commercial versions or involved with RF's development. The costs involved with hosting the larger d...

RF's limitations

Most of the limitations with RF come from a sheer lack of tutorials and detailed examples of how to create various types of gameplay. As has been demonstrated by federico, dan valeo and some of the other advanced users of RF, you CAN create pretty much any kind of game in RF without needing to touch...

.wad files

Nem's assumes that you are using a quake type engine for level design. Quake/Half-Life/Doom3 etc use what is called a 'wad' file for storing their textures. Similar to the RF .txl texture libraries, the wad file contains all of the textures for a particular level. You CAN texture in Nem's if you bui...

the best option

there is a bright pink texture in the techdemo texture library - this is 'the' transparent color that RF uses for semi-transparent textures. it's technically '255,0,254' in RGB color values, and any texture with this value will be rendered as semi-transparent. the simplest way to do this is extract ...

Open Source versus Commercial versions

For a period of a year, we offered a commercial version of reality factory. The comparison that you can make is similar to the commercial versions of Linux that are on the market - ie Red Hat, Suse, etc The core Reality Factory engine is and always has been open source. NOTE - Open Source is NOT the...

super old

as you can tell from the URL, this is super old, from back when the original developer Ed Averill was working on the project. I setup the Yahoo group as an attempt to setup a mailing list for RF users to chat & discuss development with the engine, but no one ever seemed to use it, so it fell int...
