I still use Windows XP and would recommend Linux if somebody is willing to switch.

I also hate microsoft (there are a no. of reasons to do so). But most programs I use run on a Windows so I just have to stick to it. I would consider using Linux as its replacement rather than a Mac.

Nevertheless it is a new OS and it is worth a try.

Windows 7 will run on hardware that can run Windows Vista. So there is no need to upgrade.

Both use the same engine. It is based on the webkit(http://www.webkit.org) engine. So the features will be almost same.

Nihris is the best RF demo game and it even uses a scripted player. So it could help you.
