Thanx GD

Didn't realize that GameDev.net had posted the sponsors & prizes online yet. For anyone that's interested, we are sponsoring the '4 Elements 4' contest that is undergoing on the GameDev.net site. You can win a license to the Beyond Virtual engine (we're not sure how they are going to award the prize...

Difference between the Development Kit & Runtime

The main difference between the development kit and the final runtime is that the development kit is specifically NOT for distribution. How do we prevent this? By enforcing things like a startup and a very simple watermark. It's not like we're going to have a massive full screen semi-transparent wat...

they've got a long way to go

just look at this screenshot - there's NO way that this is easier to use than RF. if the engine needs that many windows open to get working then it's even worse than the GIMP... http://cogengine.sourceforge.net/images/Screenshot%20-%20CogEngine%281.1.3%29%28Small%29.jpg however, it does run on linux...

Updated BV Website, Screenshots & Licensing details onli

Something else I forgot to mention - we just launched an updated Beyond Virtual website (http://www.beyondvirtual.com) with a new BV Logo, new look for the site created by Red Cell Creative. I have also updated the Licensing page with more details on the various licensing packages that will be avail...

That 'other' engine I'm working on (development blog?)

After years of having people ask if they can post news about their own engines, here I am doing the same thing... First, I'd like to ask the community - do people mind if I post somewhat 'off-topic' news updates about Beyond Virtual here (in the general discussions forum)? Even though we don't have ...

World Edit is indeed an RF/Genesis editor

World Edit was one of the first of the community-contributed Editors that came out. The main differences between the 3 editors are: - Interface changes (placement of buttons, improvements, each has their own quirks) - keyboard shortcuts (i personally found the worldedit shortcuts to be the most intu...

Gekido Design Group looking for experienced programmers

This isn't specifically 'RF' related but... The Gekido Design Group is currently looking for experienced programmers with OpenGL experience (ideally having shipped several commercial titles) for fulltime paid positions working on the Beyond Virtual engine. There are several positions available, incl...

nout's updates

Nout has sent me a test copy of his update with all of the 072 & 072A changes integrated (binary only) He also has the starting point for enabling the Genesis 3d physics system as well, so you can give objects physical properties and have 'real' physics apply to them as well. He mentioned that he wa...

reduce lightmap size

actually what you want to do is select the faces in question (in this case the floor of your level where the shadow is being cast) and go into 'face' mode & reduce the lightmap scale for that face in particular. In this way, you can both increase the detail of the shadows - AND maintain good framera...

Dan has been producing the most (and coolest) code for Reality Factory for quite a while now - this is only a logical extension of both this fact, plus the fact that I am seriously overloaded with work on Beyond Virtual, the numerous in-house projects that we have under development (using BV & other...

VidFest 2005 Indie Games Presentation Online

I finally organized the slides from the VidFest 2005 presentation that Johnathan Skinner and myself did a few weeks ago. The title of the presentation was 'The Trials and Tribulations of Indie Game Development' and covered a wide range of topics that are fairly relevant to anyone doing indie game de...

All in good time

All of the tutorials / docs etc will be made available as soon as possible. I'm organizing whatever docs & info that I have from the old site and will continue to host them once our server is back up and functional, but in the meantime, everyone is going to have to be patient during the transition p...

Opened the Floodgates

I've linked in the new site from the main RealityFactory.ca domain... I'm going to setup the old ikonboard forums once we get the server redone (taking so long to back everything up etc), and run a site-stripper program on it so that we have the old forums in static html format. We can host the old ...
