I use LithUnwrap as well. It's a very good piece of software!
I always group the faces I see in from the perspective. I tend to make a lot of groups that way, but it gives me the most control of the actual UV mapping.

Yeah, it is hard work. But hey, nobody said making games is easy, even with RF. But in the end it will pay off. Even if nobody plays it I have made a game of my own and I can say 'I've modeled that model, and painted that texture, and written that AI, and...'. And in the end that's what matters to ...

Well, it seems fine to me. The blackness comes from the fact that it is not smooth shaded properly.

Well, not meant as 'see what I can do', but take a look at my site.
It's uber simple! Simply made with frontpage and the theme is also quite simple, just some squares on a grey background with some effects.
First, think up a layout, and then implement your theme. At least, thats how I do it.
