Forum update (phpbb3)

Post by QuestOfDreams » Fri Jan 18, 2008 1:22 am

As you surely have noticed I have updated the forum software to phpbb3. The conversion from the old forum seems to work fine. If you experience any problems (especially the moderators since the backend has changed quite a bit) please report it here or send me a pm.

I really like this update! I was curious as to why the forums were down this afternoon.

*Edit*
I just noticed that the number of members has dropped by almost 100. I take it some cleaning was done for all those empty and spam accounts that were registered?

*Edit*EDIT*
I hate to double edit, but I just got done browsing through all the new features under the account settings and I am very happy to see them! I am really happy with this forum update!

Yes, sorry for the downtime without any announcement. The conversion took more time than I tought, if I had known it before I would have written one.
The number of users is lower because the new version only counts active members (members that have at least posted once).

Glad its back.

Here I was thinking O'GOD not another server move like last year.

Now have to get used to a new forum format.

I think it looks very nice Daniel. Thank you.

I'll let you know if everything goes well the next time I have to delete a "FREE 24HR 6969 ORGY SEX PORN SITE" thread.

When using Internet Explorer 7 you can't see the User Control Panel, Messages, Search, Members, or Login/ Logout links at the top of the page but you can see Home and FAQ links. Also the Reply and New Topic buttons are missing. It works fine using Firefox but I usually use IE7.

Disregard my previous post, after reading Juryiel didn't have problems with IE7 I tried turning off plugins and it turns out that the IE7Pro plugin was causing the message board to display incorrectly. I love the IE7Pro plugin so I'm hoping it isn't one of the features I use such as spell check or ad block.

EDIT:
The problem was IE7Pro was setting the browser's user agent as Googlebot. When I set it back to IE7 the page loads fine. I like using the Googlebot setting because on some sites it allows you to enter without having to fill in a registration form before reading an article.

Nice new forum!

Yes there really was a lot of spam lately. If we got rid off most of that it would be a major improvement for QOD and the mods.

A friend of mine has a big forum for our whole class level and a few people more (~200 people). I know it's not that big, but there is NEVER spam (and we do post alot). I wonder how he does it.
