updating

Post by gekido » Fri Jan 06, 2006 2:25 am

Hello,

I just did a fresh install of rf 072a and copied the 075 update overtop and RF crashes when I run the gameshell.

Just thought I'd let you know.

Haven't tried to rebuild any levels with it, but figured i'd let you know that the most obvious update procedure doesn't seem to work.

You know, I did a fresh install of 072A, then downloaded the 75 update and copied it over. I restarted RF and the screen went black, as you expect, then showed the little message I see when the system is shutting down or rebooting, then, RF came up and ran as though nothing had ever happened. Weird.

I really like it, QOD. I love the character selection at the beginning and the way it remembered my players name when I got caught. I really like the way things are looking. Good stuff!!!

the reason for crashing

Post by gekido » Fri Jan 06, 2006 11:20 pm

figured out the reason for the crash

the realityfactory.ini file in the default setup for RF after installing the 072a and then applying the 075 update is looking for a 'MenuReplyDemo.bsp' level when it launches, which does not exist in the distribution.

I tried to compile the rftechv1.3dt file that shipped with the previous version of RF and it crashed on launch as well:

Code: Select all

I'll keep looking into it and see what might be causing the problems, but the fact that RF is looking for a non-existent level on launch is an obvious one.

I'm having the same problem. I can't seem to get the 075 exe to work.
starts up screen goes black then goes back to my desktop. It doesn't produce a log file for me.

I've tried the procedure (installing RF072A then unzipping the update to the directory) on 3 different pcs now and it worked fine on each of them.

Ok it should not be MenuReplyDemo.bsp, however it doesn't matter since the starting levels for the 2 characters you can select are defined in the character.ini file.

Source code?

Post by Nout » Sat Jan 07, 2006 5:33 pm

If I download the source code, I get a file called RF072A.zip
Is this the latest source code forRF075 just with a wrong name?

Thats what I did, I reinstalled rf072 to c:\realityfactory075\ which is a new folder nothing in it. Then Applied the patch/update. But it won't work. I'll try it again. If it doesn't work, then I'll wait till you make the installer. Do you have an idea when you'll have it ready?

Oops sorry, didn't update the link correctly, the correct file is called RF075source.zip - should work now.

I'm running 075 in my main game directory, overwrote the
072a with the 075 in its own directory, running fine, except for
the flashlight script, the light only works in the west direction,
plus I had to lower the jump speed and jump pad force to
keep from hitting ceilings and sky.

I tried doing what you said.
1. installing 072a
2. unzipping 075 update on top.

I don't know if your think that I don't know what I'm talking about but I do. I do exactly as you instructed.

But out of those 5 machines did any of them happen to be a 98?????
Thats prolly the reason.

OK, got it. My computer doesn't support all those graphics types. I took the video setup thing from an old install and put it in the folder and ran it set it to the right settings and it worked, but then it was missing a adventure26 font so I just sorta made one up since it didn't have it.

I like how you can enter your name into the beginning very cool.
Barely made it past those guys.
(I had never completed it before for some strange reason)
Everytime I chose the normal virgil it went to blank room, that must be a new feature.
