How about a list of the where we can get the free samples
Well...

http://www.darkbeats.com/sampleswap/ <-- this one is mostly drum samples. If you're looking for acoustic drum set samples (like those used in rock/pop songs) check out "Akai Samples.zip" near the top. Also, I believe "strings.rar" towards the bottom holds most of the orchestral samples in my library.
http://samples.edge6.com/ <-- there are a lot of samples in here but you'll have to sort through it yourself since I forget what I've downloaded from there (if anything).
http://www.bestvst.de/ <-- there are two pretty good Ibanez Bass Guitar sample sets in there
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=225492 <-- I would suggest keeping an eye on this thread, as biologic says in the title post, he is cutting up the samples from the U of Iowa Orchestral Samples and making them more easy to use.

That's about it. I have a lot of other samples on my secondary hard drive which isn't plugged in right now... when I use it next I'll look through and maybe get you some links. :)

Tanks for the links. I'm trying out Magix music maker at the moment ( love the "one click song buttont" ) but use psycle mostly.

trying to find the best out there.

Will soon try to get my midi keyboard set up to the computer. That will be fun....

Also, if you need a good trombone instrument...

Unfortunately, they're mapped for Energy XT2, and their notes (e.g. C#4, etc) are not labeled in the filenames. Thus, I use Gtune to determine their pitches. It's a VST plugin so I just slap it onto the master track in FL Studio and it will detect the pitch of anything I play through FLS.

As for the samples themselves, well... they are of very good quality. Lots of different articulations (staccato, hard, soft, etc) and also some effects such as breaths and rises.

Alright Kiji, here's the first version of the desert theme I've been working on the past couple days.

The drums at the beginning that play through the song are latin, but the shanai (the flute-like instrument in that fades in with the strings) is more of a middle-eastern thing. Let me know what you think.

Semi-final version:

You can ignore the version number "v1.3.2b" at the end, it's just my naming scheme for telling them apart on in my project directory. :P
