Survivor Chronicles: The Island

Survivor Chronicles: The Island

The game will be a little different to the rest. There'll be 4 main characters, and we'll play the game using all four of them.

Storyline:
En an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, the sea is moving back very quickly, and there are various earthquakes shaking the island. Sarah Coan, a native islander sends to call a geologyst to come and help them.
Matthew MacAllister recieves the call, and because of family matters, he ends up taking both his children (Erika and Alex). But the islanders are part of a sect, and for some strange reason, they don't want the MacAllister family in the island. From the moment they step on the island, begins a race against time in which they must fight against the forces of nature and the dangerous sect of islanders. ¿Will they survive?

This is the main character in the middle of a little "aiming" system i've implemented to the game:

This is Alex, Matt's son. He's about 9 years old, therefore he won't use a gun. And against such dangerous islanders, he won't be able to do much with a knife. He'll have to use shadows and stealth to survive. Making noises to distract enemies, and knocking them out with stones or others objects we'll pick up.

And this is Erika, the daughter of the family. She's nearly 18 years old. I'm not exactly sure what to do with her yet. For now I think she does karate. She defends herself with martial arts. Her job will mainly be protecting her brother.

The game will be divided in various episodes, separated as different games, with a very big cinematic look, with an "In Previous Episodes" at the beggining of each one and a "To Be Continued" at the end.

Well here's a little video I recorded on how the "aiming" looks. The level hasn't got anything to do with the game and I haven't scripted the actual "shooting" (explotion + projectile)

Is the character supposed to be a zombie? His walk animation needs less sway and more arms. You can find free motion capture data around the net somewhere and apply it to the character via a modelling program.

[EDIT]Here is a good mo-cap database.[/EDIT]
[EDIT]Another one that is Milkshape friendly.[/EDIT]

Thanks for the advice, I was planning to change the walk animation anyway. But I'd rather do it how I did my other animations which i'm very pleased. That is recording myself doing the animation and then change it in milkshape frame by frame

Hear hear! I like to do most, if not all, of the work myself. Makes it more my game!

Ahh...you're going to try what is known as roto-scoping. It was made popular in 2D games by Jordan Meschner when he wrote the original Prince of Persia. Interesting to see how it would work in 3D.

Well that's how i made the walk, run, and melee animations, just i forgot to move the arms, and the frames need a little moving around in the walk animation, but notice he's got a weapon in each hand, that's why i didn't move the arms much

reminds me I need to make a 3rd person interface.
I would love a code like this with the aiming system, I am planning the aim system to zoom into a kind of 1st person view.
the over the shoulder look is really nice too.

Okay, I'm updating with what I've got. I've assigned a skeleton on both kids:

Alex: http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/4849 ... adobs5.jpg

Erika: http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/313/ ... adaly0.jpg

And I've modeled and textured a sky view of the island, to be seen in cutscenes:

I'm having problems with the scripted player's shooting, I'll be working on that when I have time.
The title is written in Spanish on the pictures, because I first showed them to the Spanish community

Last of the four contolable characters, Sara Coan. She'll be an islander that'll help the MacAllister family escape the island. This is the high poly version, for the cutscenes:

Modified the main player's model, giving him a more "tourist"-ish look. I also modelled a backpack for certain:
