I see in your other thread you're trying to use gmax. I have never had success in trying gmax, and don't even have it anymore. The two best modeling programs for me are:

anim8or: http://www.anim8or.com/

and

Milkshape: http://chumbalum.swissquake.ch/

anim8or if freeware, while Milkshape costs like $25.00 after a 30 or 60 day trial. Don't recall. After tricking it into working beyond the trial for a long time, I finally convinced my wife to let me plunk down the 25 bucks about a year or so ago. Glad to have done it. it's a great program.

Anyway, both of these programs will import obj files without doing anything special, and will export same and 3ds without any special effort on your part. Other than finding the import/export functions. Milkshape will export Genesis bdy and mot (motion) files as well. It's indispensable, actually.

Nice icon.
That's true, and this Monday will happily celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary!! :D But I do appreciate the hug, kiji. Thank you, and you're quite welcome.

The icon is really sharp!! What program did you use to create it? I've never been able to make nice photgraphic icons like that.

Accurate texture mapping is quite an art. As Scott said it's not something learned over night. I am not good at texturing, and anim8or is very tough to texture in. It's UV mapping is difficult. I model in anim8or and texture in Milkshape. It's much simpler for me. And I still don't try anything complex.

Don't give up. You have to keep at it. Step back and look at what happened. Try to figure out why it happened and make corrections. If that doesn't get it, start the process again. You'll get it. I have faith!!! :D
