successful racing genre?

Other than Reality Racer, has anyone ever successfully created a racing game using RF?

and what is the viability of creating a simple game, where the player can drive a car around a city (such as free roam in games like Need for Speed?)

yeah, I'm also interested in that, I'm thinking on a level where you drive a buggy on a straight road (so it could be scripted pawn), but dunno where to start yet
