Space Rangers Ep. 8 - the Rouge Robot (game project)

Post by Grok »

After testing the RF engine for a bit I now feel confident that I will, in time, be able to make a game with it, so a project seems in order.

I have made a number of 2D games previously and have played around with 3D modeling a bit. Nothing very serious and with no intention of doing anything even resembling a commercial project.

I have previously made 2 games with the Space Rangers,

Ep. 46 the Devil Within http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/si ... game/2097/, and
Ep. 52 the Redemption of Grisli Adams http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/si ... game/2151/

I had a third episode planed that I think would work well as a 3D game and I didn't get that much response on my 2D attempts as I had hoped for.
So I am switching over from doing ep. 8 as a 2D game to make it as a 3D game.

Ep. 8 the Rouge Robot

and yes I mean Rouge.

So this is my project

You will find a walk test with my robot model here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFM0wKPPuu4

I have a long way left before I can do something really useful with RF, but it is a start. :D

Update

I have now made a model that will be the player character, Agent Kat

Image

I've tried out the character as a pawn in this video
https://youtu.be/MDsD87KCfW4
(Is there a way to embed videos in a post?)

I've also made a 3 part video on how I made the character using Misfit Model 3D
https://youtu.be/6zm0YS3rhBs
https://youtu.be/KsSbk5A_zL0
https://youtu.be/fWlwZRxDkD8

What I have not done in that video is the part where I make it into an RF actor. That unfortunately can not be done in MM3D.
The act-model does not yet (by far) have all the actions needed to make it a player character.

No. I have only done episode 46 and 52 previously (links in the first post) (staring special agent Yaz KreJonns).
I will not be doing all episodes. To do it this way is an artistic choice. Sorry if this is confusing.

Kat has an appearance in episode 52

-----------------------

Next I'll planing to make a 3D version of the directors room as seen in the 2 previous 2D games

No, Misfit can't save to or export to .act, but it can to ms3d.
I have use the test version of Milkshape to make .bdy and .mot files. It has not been without some problems and I have not yet figured out what I do right when succeeding and vice versa.

Of course when I need to use Milkshape I really could do it all in that program. Just don't feel like learning a new system when I have one I'm comfortable with and time is a limited resource.

Also have used Equity 10 to save to .act (but without motion).

Made some progress on constructing the Commanders office, see W.I.P. movie on the link below (had a hard time with the door. Still not happy with it.)

The earlier 2D game version of the office you can see in an earlier post in this thread.

Lookin' good. The door does look a little wiggy. Also, equity 7c has a primitive animation tool you could use to animate your characters. That's if misfit modeler can export a boned ms3d model.

Yes it does. Hope to get that sorted out in time. :)

Yes, MM3D can export a ms3d model with bones (and animation).

Equity 7c might be interesting to give a try. I can't seem to find that version though.

The folder calls it equity 8 but it's equity 7c for some reason. Not that it's important.

Open your boned character in equity. click on the motions folder on the left. On the right you'll see a button for create new motion.

I've done some more work on the directors office
https://youtu.be/I9MB5IHxPVE

When agent Kat sits down in the chair that is an animation done in Equity 7c. Remaining sitting is another animation made in the same program.

A bit different in how to make the animation, but I think I got the hang of it fairly quick. I think this could be quite useful.

Hi Guys

I have been looking at your post would it be helpful if you could import a misfit model and motions directly into Equity.

It will take a couple of weeks but if you interested let me know.

Thanks

Terry
