how many different channels of sound can RF hadle at one time or is this related to hardware again?
i want multiple sounds playing at the same time and want to know the limit of how may i can use

That depends on your sound card. You can use the DXCaps Viewer from the DirectX SDK to find this out.

if its hardware dependent then is there a way of setting the priority of sound, so if you want one to play and not the other cos the audio card cant handle it it will play the one you want.

Yes, but it requires a change to the Genesis engine. DirectSound buffer management would be a nice feature to implement. Hint...Hint...
