80 meg actor (one 2048x2048 texture&Lowpoly)

Post by Veleran » Thu Dec 03, 2009 8:23 pm

Ι wanted to export terrain platforms with multiple textures of 2048x2048 i thought maybe i these actors could use textures that can be compressed like jpg to keep a demo size smaller.

Today i tried equityB1 and replaced the bmp with a 1,5mega jpg ,then rebuilded to see if the new actor will have the jpg's stored in the actor.

Although I did nt hoped much,i took a look at the file size of the rebuild test actor and it was 80 megabytes (the actor is about 1,5k faces with a 2048x2048 texture)..
What might have gone wrong..

Hi Veleran

The actual size of the texture file in the actor will not change in size the actor only holds bmp or tga what we do is convert the jpg to a format that the actor wants.

in fact it could end up bigger because of the alpha channel so we dont compress we alter to the best one.

Thanks
Terry

Bernie

There were a few issues with the resizing of the actor in connection to the bounding box everything scales ok now the actor its motions and bounding box and are good for RF1 and RF2/Ogre.

There are some fixes also to the Motion Editor picked up by jay I will release a more official version over the next day or 2 with the sequencer working again.

But for now if people could use the Version on my file front it has the bounding box issue solved.

Thanks
Terry

PS
By the way Bernie I will add the resizing of the application to Equity so can work in any resolution.

?????? What do you mean by this.
Is it causing a crash ?
If your models load OK in Milkshape then they should load in Equity provided that all your textures are a power of 2.

the textures are fine, because I export to .bdy in the milkshape the same model for import in equity and the model in .bdy load good in equity, only the error is when import in ms3d
