yea thats what i dont understand...okay it isn't previewing the basic demo level or any others. so i download RF and open up the basic.bsp level in RFedit pro and hit compile, check the box that says preview and then click okay. it compiles and then i hit the okay button on the window that comes up asking if i still want to preview and i say yes (ok) and my screen just flickers and goes back to rfedit pro. And now im not even getting a RF.log file that i had posted earlier in this thread. that is what is happening. (side note- the first time i say preview it says it can't find RF.exe in C:\RealityFactory\media...and it asks for some other .dll files to be in there so i just copy them from the main folder into the media folder and then it doesn't complain anymore...not sure if that has anything to do with it)

Of course you don't get a log file. The one you posted earlier in this thread hasn't anything to do with your level - it obviously came from a program run when you've played the 3 demo levels that come with RF (as I stated before).

This is not the normal behaviour of the editor. It should find realityfactory.exe without problems unless you've messed up the RFEditPro.ini file (in the tools folder) which tells the editor where to look for realityfactory.exe. Copying the files over to the media folder will not solve your problem it may even make it worse because realityfactory won't find other files it needs to run properly.

The RFEditPro.ini file should look like this

Code: Select all

Background=6710886
Color=12632256
SnapColor=13688896

Ok.

1. You cannot double click a 3DT file. You have to use File | Open.
2. It is using the media folder as the working directory because you double clicked the file. Try using the shortcut in the Start Menu to start RFEditPro and use File | Open to open the level.

Alright i didn't know that i wasn't allowed to double click a 3DT file...so i have now reinstalled RF clean and followed ur steps and here are screenshots of what i did. Okay first i went to my start menu and went to open rfedit like you said i should. and screenshot number 2 is the window that pops up. I then find the default file that it is looking for and that opens up the editor with the default screen. then i go to file open and find the basic.3DT file and open it which is screenshot 3. Then the window that i have shown in shot 2 comes up again when i open up basic.3DT. I again find the default.txl that it is looking and then the basic level loads. I next compile and try to preview it and screenshot 5 happens. Those are all the steps i followed after downloading RF from the site. should i have done something different?

In the menu, select Project | Level Options and make sure your default.txl in the location where you installed RealityFactory. You might have to do this for each level that you open. For new levels, you should not have to do this.

Aiite well thanks everyone for your help...i really appreciate it all. Um so the problem was in the rfedit pro.ini file...and it was looking for the files in the folder right above (..) and all i did was set a hard path to all the paths that began with .. by finding and replacing all. and that fixed it. Thanks once again. I hope i dont have more problems as i now set about building my games. Thanks.
