Q. What are the essential files I need to run Reality Factory?
A. The essential files are included with the main Reality Factory Installer at the download page.

If there is an update available you just have to unzip it over the standard RF download, or unzip it into its own directory, so you can back up the files it's going to write over.
It is always a good idea not to unzip an update into your own game directory. Create a standard RF install first to make sure it runs, then decide which of the update files should go into your custom game.

Programmers may also download the Reality Factory and Genesis3D source code (you'll need MSVC++ 6 and the dx8 (or later) headers and libs to compile)

Q. Is it more a programming Engine or editor like?
A. Both. There is no C or C++ programming or compiling to make a game, and most things you set as entities that relate to one another, but there is scripting of enemies (which you can copy from pre-made ones) and you might need a programming-type brain - 3D game making isn't quite easy yet.
