Now I have my level, it's all set and done, I go to compile it - Build->Compile->Preview in Reality Factory-OK
I get into RF, select my character, and boom. Well not boom, but RF disappears, RFEditPro is still running and my mouse has successfully disappeared. I have to CTL+Alt+DEL and TskMgr and actually end the process. I don't know whats going on here. I'm running on 7 x64. hmmm I'll try running it in XP mode but I doubt anythings going to change. I can haz help?

Any errors listed in the RealityFactory.Log file or other log files such as D3DDrv.Log or D3DCache.Log?

For some reason when I go to look for that file in windows explorer, it doesn't show up. Yet when I open RFEditPro and browse for it there I CAN see it, although it has a little lock symbol to the left of it... hmmm, i'm going to try to save it to a different location. I'll post back whether or not it works.

Same questions:
Does the demo run?
Where did you install RealityFactory to? Is it in C:\RealityFactory?
Is the editor located in the tools folder?
Do you start the editor from inside the folder or from a shortcut? (The installer doesn't set the working directory correctly for the shortcut.)
Has the level compiled without errors?
Did you add a PlayerStart and PlayerSetup entity to the level?

The Demo runs fine
It's installed to C:\Program Files (x86)\
The editor is in the tools folder
I run RFEditPro directly from the tools folder
The level compiled without errors
I added both a player setup and start to the level

Ok, so basically RF should work fine - it just can't open your level file. This is probably due to a permission problem, since you said the file is marked with a lock symbol which means that you don't have the permission to open it. However, I don't know why the file got locked. You may try to manually apply the permissions to the file (you'll need an administrator account for this task).

Hmm, well the problem now seems to be that I can't see it in Windows Explorer. I saved it to the desktop where I could see it and changed the permissions. I still get the crash. I think i'm going to try it in a virtual machine. Hmm....

If you don't see the file then you have to change the folder options to show hidden files. Then change the permission.
If you save the file to your desktop there is a chance that RF may not find the file (though I'm not 100% sure about that without looking it up).

I have it set to see hidden items under Control Panel > Folder Options > Show Hidden and it still doesn't show up.

I have had this same problem, and i did everything in this post, and it still crashes, could it be that my video card is not good enough, or that the directx is not high enough?

Guys...download the Ebook from this site and follow the instructions. If you still can't get the level to compile, then post here again.
