I just recompiled the original Genesis3d NFO & KEY exporter code with the 3ds max 2008 SDK. There were a few minor changes needed but nothing major.

You can get a 30 day trial version of 3ds max 2008 from the following link:

Then maybe I should remove the plugins and forget about using 3ds max with RF since you and the people here don't have any interest in using 3ds max. J/K But it is funny how the person that can't download 3ds max because it's too big assumes everyone in the RF community doesn't want to use 3ds max.

The 30 day trial is free, you just need to download it. But 3ds max 2008 full retail version is around $3500 and there are student versions which range from $200 - $400.

3ds max is great for animating your models. There biped system is very easy to use and you can find tons of motion capture files on the web that work with 3ds max. I suggest making your models in another program then using the 30 days of the trial version to create and export your animations.

Wow 3500 dollars! that sounds like a professional tool. Trust me if I had the cash I would buy that and inventor.
How is it with precision modeling. inventor isnt really made for abstract objects, rather is for drafting and design of machine parts through precision 3d solid modeling. not good for charectors but exelent for weapons and such.

it is really awesome. i dont have 2008 ver but it rules. there are a bunch of ways to model, like NURBS, polygon, box and moar. you can script your own files with maxscript and you can even make your own plugins. and to top it off, it has a built in uvmapper and you can customize the interface.

render system, output videos also in HD if your after that sort of stuff, physics, partical effects, material creator, key frame animation, tons and tons of little features like lod system that alows you to scrol instantly between your different LoD's, also partical animation, this is the stuff they make halo 3 and final fantasy films with, all the profecionals use it, for its price its worth it but far too expensive for just some software.

Sweet thanks Allanon, I updated to 2008 and went to try and export my models into rf the other day to see if it could handle the model, and the export didn't work. Many thanks. :D

I don't have the 3ds Max 8 SDK so I can't compile the code. The SDK comes with 3ds Max so if you have the software you should have the SDK. Krouer who is a current developer of the Jet3d engine just posted 3ds Max 8 plugins for Jet3d, so I will ask if he would make a Genesis3d version also.
