My first weapon

Hi guys, I just finished my first sword from scratch in blender, please review it, and give me tips on what to do better.
Here's a screenshot:

I don't use blender so I cannot view it. The screenshot shows a lot of unnesesary polygons on the blade. You can do with a lot less!

Also, the shape's a bit wrong for a sword, I would say. Looks more like a dagger. Make the blade a whole lot longer and the handle just a bit to remove the 'fat' look of the model.

ok, thanks but I just realised how shoddy the handle looks, maybe a bit more style?

I do not use blender, but I agree with Sph!nx about the extra polygons. The sword reminds me somewhat of a hobbit sword or a cartoon one, if that is the look you are going for you are doing great!!
Over 3 years (has it been that long?) and just now I noticed the day and month of my birthday were switched. Whoops!

Some 2d games I made, haven't made anything in a year though O.o
