oh,that'll take too much time.

Post by metal_head » Sun Sep 21, 2008 6:31 pm

i want to speed up things a bit.I made some animated effects (the type that uses several bitmaps ) - explosions, etc.,but to put them in the game ,I'll have to make alphapaps of them, and on effect contains about 20 bitmaps,so it will take hours to make their alphamaps in photoshop for example. Is there any other software, that's faster or I don't know something like alpha channel converter (you put several bitmaps and generate from them alphamaps) I didn't find nothing in the tools folder,I did a search in google for that, but found nothing also.

Welcome to the world of making games. Sometimes you just have to do it the hard way. :)

yeah,I know that but that will take incredibly much time if I have to make them one by one. and I don't have so much free time...

If they are all similar bitmaps you could use the same alpha map and just scale it up or down depending on how it is

If it's a set process in Photoshop then you can create a batch job that can be performed automatically on many bitmaps.

I once found an explosion creator that made you partivle explosions rendered to bitmpas and alphamaps... It was incredible!

I don't know if it was this one, but you can try it:

I have a similar program called Explosion Generator. Very helpful in making explosions.

You can grab it here: http://www.geocities.com/starlinesinc/

You could greyscale all of the bitmaps and save them as alphamaps. Ya, it's a cheap solution and probably wouldn't look very good but it would only take some minutes. Depending on the amount of images, naturally.

Hey Juutis, the one you posted is exactly the one i meant! :D

I normally use TextureMaker and use masking on the black parts for thinghs like that. Then i reverse the colors. It takes longer, but it is also better than just making them greyscale.
