Any good modelling tuts for RF?

Post by benjie417234 » Fri Aug 07, 2009 12:29 pm

Are there any?
Wow,I've been going on and off about RF.Probably because I want
things to be instant...Guess I should learn step by step.
But still, are there any good modelling tutorials for RF?
And what's the best modelling software for RF?
Thanks in advance.

google is your friend

Many RF users use Milkshape3d for $25. However, if you can work out the interface, blender3d is much better, and it's free!
Once I was sad, and I stopped being sad and was awesome instead.

Except you can't get your animated models out of blender into RF at all yet (which makes it totally useless).
Also Milkshape has increased it's price and now costs $35

No... Gmax exports NFO and KEY files which can be loaded into an actor. Gmax is ok but complicated to use however it is free. Anything that exports ogre xml files is ok now also except Blender, aparantly the Blender exporter broke when they updated Blender and Python. I understand they are working on it and should be sorted soon. That often seems to happen with Blender, the scripts stop working when they update either Blender or Python and have to be rewritten or modified.

Does equity support .mesh now?

Does equity support .mesh now?
Not yet directly. Equity6 beta supports ogre XML. If you convert the .mesh file to Ogre XML Equity will load that it will also load the .skeleton file if it is converted to ogre XML. But please note that weighted vertices are NOT supported and will cause problems if you try to load a model that has weighted vertices. Also the textures are not directly supported Equity makes space for them and you can add them using the change texture function. Note also the ogre XML files MUST be named correctly eg. dwarf.mesh and dwarf.skeleton the names must be the same and in the same folder.

Bernie, using weighted verts is a modern modelling technique and should be fully supported by any tool that is made. Is there plans to include support for weights in the future?

Weights can't be done in rf1 without the engine being modified. BUT... we are going to use ogre for next version of equity after 6.0.1 so weights will then be supported for RF2.
