rf is programed in c++. Microsoft Visual c++ is just a compiler/User Interface. rf2 is also being programmed using c++.

Also,i downloaded wat the microsoft site said was visual c++,and started to install it,and it said it needed to download another 91 mbytes of data?!?!?!is that needed,or are the 3 mbytes i originally dled enough?

yep you need to install the 91 mb too, and then the plattform sdk and the directx sdk to compile rf. All in all you will have to download at least 300-400MB

the 91 mb are essential. But then you just have the bare minimum that you need for developing programs (just dos-like thingies). You will still have to download other thinghs, like engines, or the platform sdk, or directx if you want to go deeper.

Yes it's not fair to those poeple who have low bandwith.

its more the cap of one gbyte im worried about.so if i were to program my own 3d game engine for example(hint) then would i need directx,and that platform sdk thing u said about too?and how big r they?

i mean doing the entire engine,not a shell over top of an existing one,and u still havent said if i need directx 4 doing that either.no offense.

If you mean from scratch..... yes you will need directX, or opengl. No offense but if you don't know c++ very very very well, you shouldn't attempt to make your own engine from scratch. Even starting with a pre-exsisting engine like irrlicht, ogre and developing your game engine, takes pro's an extremely long time.

well were do i learn to program well enough to do that then?Uni?and i was going to get a book out to learn from,its for making a full 3d game engine,and takes a lot from the Countersrikke engine.

highes education in your country, thats university in this country, not sure what it is anywhere else. i learnt a few months of programming at college, all i was able to do was a math test for kids (it was the asignemnt so i had no choice) but i would have no clue on how to do an engine.
