Is RF capable of Myst-like games?

Post by StandardDeviant »

Hello all,

I'm thinking of taking on yet another project, which is odd because I have yet to finish a single project that I've pretty much ever started, but hey, why not? What I'd like to know is whether or not RF supports games which aren't shooters, but first-person puzzle adventures (a la Myst, or better yet, RealMyst). No running, jumping, shooting, or dying; just observing, searching, and thinking. And, of course, I'll have to create an entire vivid world in which the player can explore at his or her own leisure and pace, a completely different concept from shooters which usually have quite linear levels.

More importantly, will I be able to implement good, creative puzzles? Obviously, coming up with good puzzles rests solely on my shoulders, but would I be able to implement them in RF?

I think I remember seeing some screen shots in the gallery of a puzzle type game. With extensive scripting yes it is possible to create a myst style puzzle game.

Focused, hard work is the real key to success. Keep your eyes on the goal, and just keep taking the next step towards completing it. If you aren't sure which way to do something, do it both ways and see which works better. - John Carmack
