Milkshape is a much recommended program for making the 3d meshes/models that the Genesis Engine which RF is build on top of, uses. Milkshape can export the .bdy format which is the actual 3d mesh and also the .mot format which is the animation format for the Genesis/RF Engines actors. The ActorStudio tool in RF can then combine the .bdy file and any associated .mot files into an .act file and then you have your actor/model for use in RF. Milkshape ain´t free, but relatively low cost at 25-30 USD. For textures you can use GIMP which is a freeware program much like paintshop (not quite as advanced, but close). For applying textures to your "would-be" models, use Lithunwrap included in RF´s tools or Milkshapes build-in texture-editor (a bit difficult to use on more complex models I think).

Good Luck :D

There's also a free modeling program called Gmax, but I think MilkShape is the best 3D modeler with RF.

you can also use TextureMaker to make your textures (256x256 is ok for the demo version i think). It's incredibly powerfull, beats ANY other program out there in my opinion (and for that 75€ are cheap). But you don't have to pay that, you can save your textures even without registering. But for commercial use you should register it. That also brings you some extra features like saving bigger textures and exporting to normal maps.
Everyone can see the difficult, but only the wise can see the simple.

Texture Program: The GIMP. It's probably the most robust free image program out there.
Modelling program: 3DS Max is the best for Genesis, but Milkshape is the cheapest at $25.

Pixia :http://park18.wakwak.com/~pixia/ , great freeware, waaaaaaaaaaay easier than the gimp.

Paint.net :http://www.getpaint.net/index2.html Could be even better than the gimp...... alpha making is very very simple with this.....

Painter25 :

I try to steer people away from the gimp and blender whenever i can;they ARE great tools, but until their interfaces are modernized, with better save systems they'll never be a part of my toolshed........
