My First Game

Post by Microman171 »

I have made my first game and want to store it so I dont have to change settings but I still want to make more games how do I make all of the files in my game work so I can play that game and make more games and play them? And how do I change the Icon for the RealityFactory.exe so I can rename it and have a new Icon?

Many Thanks,

Micro

on the first part if im understanding correctly you want to still be able to play your game youve made but would like to be able to make new games. simply copy the realityfactory folder and name it whatever you want; normally the name of your game; then use rf as you would (you might want to delete your old game's content from the realityfactory folder before you work on a new one; or you could rename the realityfactory folder to the name of your game and install rf fresh, that would work even better)

as to changing the icon, if you have msvc++, you could recompile rf with a different icon, if not, theres a program called Microangelo (i think thats what its called) that im almost 100% sure can change program icons, but it's not free.

Or, to put it another way, simply install a new instance of RF in a new location on your pc.

Hey, before G4 took over tech tv, on call for help, they said about icon makers and mentioned microangelo or whatever, but they also mentioned a free one. I cant remember the name of the free one, and I know there are others out there. I have searched google before for icon makes and found a few but never felt that the sites were trustworthy (and I dont want to get my hard drive destroyed looking for an icon maker). Becareful when searching the net, its a dangerous place, I mean just look what happened to the old RF server :( .

just to clarify, it takes a decent program to make icons, and it takes an even more decent program to aply those icons to existing exe's... i have yet to find a free one that can... havent looked hard lately though, you might try googling it, see what comes up...

You can change the icon in MS Paint simply. Just make your 24x24 icon and save it as .ico. Then right click on the .exe and change the icon from there, and rename as what you want. Its simple as that!

huh? I thought icons had to be 32x32?

Use (255,255,255)white for the invisible areas.
