Bye to RF :(
Bye to RF :(
Well, I've got 2 news: one bad and one good(just like in the movies)
Good one is that we've finished our project recently and we know something bout game development now, but the bad one is my friend and I am saying good bye to RF because for our new project we'll need really good physics system and already working multiplayer so we are switching so Source engine. It's free and I've read that we will be able to make completele new games with it. Anyway, no offence to RF - it's a great engine, but that just don't meet our needs(just like Torque...). If anyone would like to hear aboput our new project please tell. And if you don't mind I'll still be coming here because I just love this so friendly game-dev community

Lithuanians for Georgia!
Wow, didn't know Source was free !
Too bad you're leaving, but hey, I think everyone does that at some point. Or at least most of us... Have a a good time with Source. And yes, I would like to hear about your new project.
Downloaded Source SDK, btw. I'm gonna see what it is like.

Pain is only psychological.

Sorry, I got excited too soon. Yes, you have to buy a license for making a stand-alone game with Source.
When downloading Source SDK it says:
When downloading Source SDK it says:
It's not made clear that it actually costs. Found this in the middle of a huge feature list:The Source SDK is a set of tools and resources used to create custom content, modifications to existing games, or even completely new games using Source engine technology. Anyone can download and try the SDK, but please note that it is designed for advanced users.
That's just unpractical... I think they should mention it when downloading the SDK in the first place.Source offers the most advanced features, tools and support at extremely competitively prices. Discussed under NDA.
Pain is only psychological.
Yeah, I hate it when you buy something or download somthing only to find out LATER that theres a catch
But I mean if its a "competitive price" im sure its worth it since we're talking about the same engien that powers some of the biggest modern commercial games out there! but then again I imagine its a bit too expensive for most indie devs, unless of course they are serious about making a commercial level game and have the skills to use the big boy tools...

This looks like the best features/price $130
if you make free games. Go to Wal-Mart and
look at their PC game selection, it's 10 percent
of what it used to be, so even the pros aren't
selling any games.
