Entry Point Not Found error message
I thought I'd try Reality Factory and have just downloaded RealityFactory075A and RealityFactory075C zip files, then installed / updated them. Seem to be having problems running RF.
First I got a message saying "can't find dinput8.dll". I downloaded a copy of this and now I get an error message that says "Entry Point Not Found: The procedure entry point GetRawInputDeviceInfoW could not be located in the dynamic link library USER32.dll". Now I do have a copy of this in /system32, so I don't understand what's wrong.
I'm running WIN 2000 Pro, and updated my Direct X before installing the software.

I am sorry but it might be your operating system, i don't know if RF runs on Windows 2000... probably it doesn't.
The error you get means that it cannot find some function inside the file, basically this means that RF wants another version of the file. I think this has to do with the operating system - windows 2000.
I however know for sure that RF works on WindowsXP.

Currently I don't have a machine with Win2000 installed, just Win98SE and WinXP. I will try to get one set up with Win2000 for testing purpose.
Have you tried to google for that error? It seems that there is a problem with directx installs on Win2000. I think you have to replace the file d3d8thk.dll in the System32 folder manually.

Thanks for the responce.
It's funny, but I tried RF briefly when I still ran WIN98SE and there wasn't that problem - sometimes "upgrading" is a backwards step!
I found more about this problem in the TechZonez forums and a copy of d3d8thk.w2k to download over at Annoyances.org (couldn't find the DirectX cab file involved). Just copied it over the top of d3d8thk.dll, and am about to reboot to see if it works.

I used the Web Installer at the MS site to install the latest version ( 9.18 ) of DirectX. After reading one of the links, it seems that what I need to do is uninstall that, and reinstall DirectX 8.1. I'll give that a try.

Tried that, and got the same error message.

This is starting to get really annoying. After reading the other posts and forums referenced here, I've tried several solutions and none of them work. I've:
- 1) replaced d3d8thk.dll with d3d8thk.w2k
- 2) ditto with user32.dll
- 3) Removed the Direct X update I had (9.18 ) and installed DirectX 8.1

Not yet - but wouldn't it be the same, or should I use a different download source.zany_001 wrote:Have you tried downloading rf again,or else if you have the money, look into upgrading,or just use 98.

I downloaded and installed it again, with the same result.

98 -> 2000
Fair enough. I stuck out Win98 until Decemeber last year, partly because I didn't want to spend money upgrading, and partly because (more or less) it did what I want. However, after MS discontinued support for it, I noticed that new programs started having versions that would run in later windows, but not 98SE.scott wrote:to be honest i myself dont know anyone who had win 2000, i had win 3.1, 95, 98, xp home and now xp media center eddition, it was the same with my grandad, he had 98SE and then went to xp
After I got (very very cheaply) WIN2000 Pro, I could run a whole slew of free software (like Sketchup) that I couldn't before. It was also (on the whole) more stable). My hardware is a bit dated, so there was no point in going to XP or beyond, as it would be too slow. Just recently I installed a dual boot of SUSE 10.2, just to have a play with it. That version of Linux (with KDE) seems at least as capable as 2000. Don't suppose you ever thougt of doing a port to Linux (just joking - I don't think that Linux even runs an equivalent of DirectX, but I could be wrong)?
