My level will not launch?

Post by Ryan »

So I built my first level, added a player start and player setup entitys. I complied the BSP file, and it compiled succesfully. Then I went to "view with engine" I found the bsp file to use, and clicked "view with engine." My screen goes black, then takes me back to desktop. wont even load my level. Heres what I have in my level, level design, "walls, floors etc, and player start and setup entitys. thats it. I dont have a player model loaded cause im not sure how. Am I missing somthing?

Nope, I get to the point where I can choose my chracter, and it crashes right after I click done on my chracter selection.

well theres 2 ways to view your level, the way you done it, by pressing the 'view with engine' button dont work, to view your level when you click build bsp level, it gives you options, make sure that the option at the botom saying 'preview in reality factory' is ticked and click ok, it should then compile again, at the end of the compile it should give you the option to preview your level.

and again as the new people on the forums dont leave the best advice you wasnt to know that the text you copied isnt the log.
the log is a text file in the rf install folder, i belive its called realityfactory.log, this is the log of the level editer.

this could be something to do with the graphics driver, in the main install folder there is a programe called video setup.exe it will just change wich driver it uses, change it from its current one to something else. if this dont work then posting the log would probably be your best bet.

its where you installed RF, like c:\realitfactory is the normal, if you put it some where like program files then it would be there.its the main folder where everything for rf is kept.

Ok thanks! Found it. I looked in the install folder and I did'nt find any thing named realityfactory.log The only 2 text documents I found were titled "Conversation", and "Message". The rest were the config files for the wepons, chracters, pawns, etc. I did play around with the other settings in the videosetup, and still, my level crashes before it will load .

Ok, just for the heck of it, I made a new level. Just a cube. Added player start/setup entitys and ran it. worked like a charm. It loaded and everything.

thanks for your help!

Just to make this clear. The Reality Factory log file is not in your RealityFactory\install folder. What scott meant was that it is in the folder where you installed RF. The log file is called 'RealityFactory.log' and it is located in the same folder where your RealityFactory.exe is, along with VideoSetup.exe etc...
