Problem with .act

Post by Ryan »

I have some models that I want to use in my game, so I went into milkshape, importated my .3DS formated model, and exported it is a .BDY. Then went into AStudio, and made it into and .ACT. I went into ActViewer, found my actor, and all I get is a blank screen after the model is opened in the ACT viewer. Did I miss somthing. Here are the steps I took.

1. imported 3DS model into Milkshape

2. Exported it as a .BDY

3. Went into AStudio and made a new file, unchecked "use project directory" gave it a name and saved it to my desktop.

4. Went to the body tab, and selected my models BDY file.

5. then I clicked on build and it said it had built succesfully as an ACT file.

6. Went into ActViwer, opened up my ACT file and nothing comes up, its a blank screen.

Note: after I imported my model into milkshape, my model lost all of its textures. Could this be the problem?

Thanks for the help. Hope I explained my situation clerly.

Were the textures in the same directory as the model? You need that in order for it to work I think.

Not sure, but I've never had that problem before. Maybe someone else knows better, but I'll let you know if I ever find out.

hmm, well to get the textures working, I think u might have to reassighn them in milkshape but im not sure. Try it with not unchecking the box "use project directory" and make sure that the BDY and the textures (if any) are in the same folder... Im just wondering mabey the scale was too massive in 3DS, im just thinking this cause i ounce opend a 3DS file i had made in Max in Milkshape and it was HUGE, cause the scale is different, so mabey what u are seeing in the ACT view is just i dunno the inside of your model or just a really close up of it... Try rotating around and zooming in and out mabey ur model IS there. Sorry i cant be of more help but ur steps seem to be right, but its obviously not working :?

Ok well it worked like a charm, I put the BDY file in the Tools folder, made sure I had "use project directory" checked. And it showed up in the "actviewer", but without textures. What folder should the objects textures be in in odrer for them to show up in the viewer?

well what i do, Is make a new folder for each model, I put that in a "models" subdirectory in RF, which i made in media, I then use the models own folder to store the texture etc and then when i set up the Astudio, I make the models own folder be the project directory... :)
