Few posts rencently, but summer's here?(READ ME!)

Post by MakerOfGames »

Hey everyone!
Just making a pun from a thread I started a little over a year ago. I am curious as to how many remember that thread? The threads name was "few posts recently but, summer is a comin'"

Anyhow, I have been logging on a few times a day now and am not seeing nearly the activity that I have seen in the past. Maybe I am just missing somthing since I was gone for around 9 months, but I want to see this forum with the life it used to have.

I remember reading and posting on this forum for hours at a time back in the day. Now it just seems that everyone is just posting one thing here, one there. What happened?

Now, summer is here and I don't know why it seems so slow. I mean everything that I posted in the past on slow forums was about how Spring drags everyone everywhere. Now summers here and I guess people are still busy? Or are we all working quietly on our own projects?

So, lets start the buzz back into the forums again! Post about why the forums seem to be slow, or the summer or whatever is currently on your mind!

Also, I would like to know what happened to some of our old regulars in the forums! (I'm talking about steven8, federico, Microman171, Kamazy, ZenBudha, Tabulanis, miccy2000, BLACK_PHOENIX, and all the others who can be remembered as seen almost daily on these forums.)

Let the posting begin!

well i do belive that steven8 has got other things to do now, i think related to family and not having the time, black_phoenix still ocasionaly posts but hes of doing his own games engine.

i do remember your post, when i clicked on theis thread i actualy thought it was the old one revived and thought wow this is old, then i only saw one post and read what you put so yea i do slightly remember it.

the forums have gone down in trafic but we are here, last year i cant remember any serious projects (apart from yours, wich to be honest i had forgoten about until recently), now this year i noticed at least 4 long term projects, zany's darkmasters, psyco's and juutis's, i have a decent computer this year, i got it specialy for game development as my old one realy was slow, and it does seem that there are alot of 1 time posters these days.

AndyCR seems to be slowing right down with his posts aswel tho he still says hi to us all occasionaly, game editors take alot of time to create so cant blame him.

i supose that times getting on, the engine is getting more outdated and less people find this site anygood (how wrong they are!!!)

and for myself the last 9 months/a year have been spent working on stuff, i dont post as often any more because i dont have that many questions but help people as often as i can.

I think somthing cool to get the community back together again would be to make a community game. I know that we got good scripters, modelers, level creators, etc. Im sure if we put all that skill together into one game, it would turn out awesome! Just an idea, but it sounds like somthing that would revive this community.

Cheers

I like to develop games, so i have my own team, it is gamerX STUDIOS. I am 17 years old.
I live in Bosnia & Herzegowina(if u ever had heard) so i have my 2 friend and we are making FPS.
It is called DARKweapon.
It will be something very good.

BTW, i dont think that developing games in RF is stupid and i respect this program esspecially because it is free.
I am new one in your old forumpeople group, and believe me i will be with this engine and Rf as long it is good, and free to all people who dont have money to buy Big engines whoose price is very high.
I respect all u guys, and i think that my life job will be game develop.

Thanks RF

i too have noticed the community in decline as of late, it's a bit of a shame considering RF community use to thrive, but i also think that people have real lives as well, and sometimes this gets in the way,

as long as the board is here the community will survive,

but i have to admit things are slowing.

as for the community project thing, they never really get off the ground we've tried a few but too no avail,
the simple reason

a. Real Life
b. too many cooks.
c. people have their own project.

its actually winter were i am,and i think a community game could work,if some1 was in charge ,and made sure everyone did wat they were supposed to.anyone would be able to stop at any time,so it wouldnt stop just because ppl wanted to go,cos other ppl could join.

Well, I can't stand to see the community decline like this.
I will however, always be here as a member of the forum so long as it exists.

I think one thing causing the decline in RF is its technology. Its running on an 11 year old graphics engine and cannot do what many game designers wish to do. Even I am waiting for RF2 to complete my game.

Unfortunately, it seems that my be my only choice! I just tried to install trueGene on Vista Ultimate 64bit and it windows can find the files! Time for a system restore. I have been having Vista problems ever since I tried installing it. It crashed in the middle of installation! Anyway, to cut a long story short, my WOW has been a WOW, they released it like this?! Because everytime I boot up my pc it has to crash within 10 minutes to be fine until next boot. I have all updates and drivers. I don't understand.

Anyhow, aside from my little rant there, I will say that RF has had a turbulent past. Each time it has survived, but now the decline is concerning.

I agree, community projects sound great but I have seen about 5 of them fail in under a month. They never seem to work out.

So, I will change this depressing feeling with a few inspiring words.
I will now be updating my games thread often. I have big plans for my game for those who don't know it. I will have to do an update post on how exactly my game is changing, but it will be revolutionary! I know last year it was closely followed by many members here.

I personally love to hear about others projects and for a while many people used the personal game thread idea. So if you have an idea or own project, feel free to tell us about it. I know I would love to hear it!

Well right now, I wish I could start a buzz back on the forums but I like to do that visually, and I don't have anything to show currently. I hope to get some screens of Works In Progress and completed things soon. I am going nuts having worked for 3 years on a game and having nothing to show for it.

I must say, RF is the only engine i have stuck with. I have tried many different engines, and i keep coming back to this one. I don'nt know why, but 90% of it is the community. I would hate the ever see the community die, because what fun would the engine be without a fun community. I really hope this community does'nt die.

I think I would have to agree with you Ryan, the community is one of the biggest reason's I have stuck with rf. The forums have always been fun and interesting. I used to be a part of several different forums, but they've all become dull and boring, but this forum has always stayed vibrant and is the only one I check any more. I hope this doesn't change and will do my best along with the rest of you too keep that from happening.

Long Live the Rf forums!
Jonas

I must say, this has put a bit of a damper on me night  TO think that these forums really might die out is depressing. Anyhoo, im glad RF2 is using python. Python is a fun language and not to hard to learn either. I hope this community is around long enough to see the release of RF 2.

I actually thought this was the same thread than a year ago, too. :)

Here in Finland, it's cold and dark for the most of the year. Now in the summer it's warm and sunny, so I really don't feel like sitting home and working on my game. But just you wait, in a month or so it will start raining like hell and it'll become chilly again and you will see a lot more progress in my game.
now this year i noticed at least 4 long term projects, zany's darkmasters, psyco's and juutis's
Don't forget Jay's project. It's one of the most interesting ones, in my opinion. :P
I hope this community is around long enough to see the release of RF 2.
I'm sure it is. And even if it dies (which I doubt) I bet a new community will rise around RF2, and I will be there! :D

this community will never die unles the website goes down and thinking about that we should all say thak you to QoD for keeping the site up and running and moderating these forums so well. i will be here till the end...

and i cant say much but i am also making a game, not many people know, i havnt mentiond it much at all, i dont want to say anything about it because i hope to make it comercial, and when its finished to get a good hype round the net, if i start mentioning it on the forum then googlers will find out about the game and so on, near the end i would certanly post on here about it so that people who know about the game will come here but until then i have to keep a lid on it for most the time.
