OMG Area 51 stole my ideas!
OMG Area 51 stole my ideas!
I dunno if anyone remembers but awhile back when I was working on Titan-IC posting screenies and ideas. Well today I rented Area-51 for Xbox and two of my ideas were in the game.
1 being the use of hypodermic needle syringes as med packs, and 2 using severed body parts to bypass security doors.
Not that it really matters though as the graphics in Area-51 blow anything away I might have done. Just fun to see new games coming out using ideas you had prior to the games release. Kinda says "Hey my idea's don't suck."

I remember the game, and I think I can remember a screeny with a ship in it.

The using severed limbs was also used in quake 2. You had to get the head of a tank commander to open an energy shielded door.
But like someone already said forums are a good way to get free game ideas and marketing research. If you have good ideas try and get a copyright or patent. I read somewhere that force feedback has a patent on it so no one can use it. I mean the real force feedback not this new vibratiting controllers. But for the needles for medpacks or the limbs for opening doors i dont think you can patent those ideas.
It does seem unfair that the indie developers come up with these great ideas but they get stolen by the large corporate entities but nothing can really be done about it.

Well I was just joking about the stealing bit. Just funny to see my ideas in a game. Although it does seem that everytime I get a good game idea a month later a game pop's out based on it or is "coming soon".
Like my Mad House game idea I posted some screenies of in the prototype phases. Then I get a new game informer in and waalaa! A game with basically the same layout but with better graphics, and physics.
It could be though that game makers scan forums for free ideas. There have been certain ideas I really really liked but don't currently have the resources or the ability to do which I don't let out.
I even had a game idea where you play as a ghost and can posses people, etc. Then awhile later boom! Commerical on TV for a game called Possesed or something like that. Weren't a ghost but could take people over, etc. I never posted anything anywhere on that idea so can't say they stole it.
On the upside as a rental Ive really enjoyed Area-51. I don't think it's all too original but the storyline, voices, and play quality are very nice. Plus I like how you get to find items to scan to unlock little extra's like video's, and secret conspiracy documents. Pretty fun stuff to watch and read.

) i looked....pontiac aztek concept.......blame me
