Question of most people on

Post by Ryan »

I noticed that there have been a total of 50 people on at one time. Howd this happen. Was there a event, or a contest of some sort, or was it just everyone checking out the new website??

I know, its a random question but i have been wondering it for quit a while.
Those who have all the answers, are never up to date on the questions.

More than likely spam bots. If you check the last 50 or so names registered...I doubt you'll find more than 10% of them valid users. To deter this, QoD should enable EMail verification along with that security bitmap verification. They cannot pound the server if their account is not active. QoD, I wrote a couple of admin mods for the Jet3D forum that query for users with 0 posts and inactive users. If you want them, let me know.

They both are turned on, otherwise there would be much more spam on the forum. However, the default phpbb bitmap verification is pretty much useless because most bots can pass it, so they can register but won't activate the account. I'm deleting these spam accounts regularly ...
I could add a question/answer verification (like 5+11=?), but I'm just too lazy to do this and if I remember correctly the next forum version (phpbb 3) should have better bitmap verification anyway ...

There are plugins on phpbb.com for better verification systems for phpBB2.

if i remember correctly that was before the site moved, and we was on that really unreliable server, i think something might of got a bit messed up (the server going down randomly for days, long loading times and eventualy advertisments aswel).

this is just a theory, not sure if its even possible but it was around that time.
