And here it is in use again.

A good screen with comments of the button selection process:

Here is a quick shot of how the user will actually build the menu.ini file. It will not only allow the user to easily create their menu and the ini file, it will teach the user how the system works.

Image

Their is a 'skeleton' ini file planted in the root folder of the program, which will be opened in notepad automatically, along with a window outlining the users most recent choices. There will be instructions for the user of where to copy and paste the text for their selections into the ini file.

You build your menu visually, then you learn exactly how the menu.ini works!

Sorry Derek. Heck, I even went and checked an email to confirm your actual name. I just had that spelling stuck in my head from the word go. It's so sad growing old.

Thanks Andy. That was my first big sticking point. At first I was just thinking of having the user define each individual button as a small bitmap, then I realised that wouldn't work, since each set of buttons is a big bitmap, from which chunks are taken and placed for buttons. Oi! So, I decided to allow the user to pick the big bitmap, crop and copy the sections over to the menu, then drag and drop them where they wish.

I still have a lot of code to write on this bugger, I have no idea when it will be done. it's good to be back working on it though.

Small update. It may not seem like much, but I've been fighting this for awhile. I wanted different colored text in my copy and paste window, so the user could easily differentiate between text to use and text not to use. I found a richtextbox class that fit my needs:

Thanks MoG. It is going pretty good, and I'm happy with it. But will still be awhile. You know, I just realized looking at my screenshot, that I have the zero on the wrong side of the = sign. Oops. I'll correct that tomorrow.

Okay, don't kick my a** over this, but I have changed the program completely yet again. I just had to. I've been stewing over this all along, and I believe I've finally got it. (maybe) The thing was one big clunker of a program. Horribly memory sucking and overweight. I have been trying to come up with a combination to still achieve the same, if not more user friendly results, but not be such a pug-ugly wreck. I don't have any screens just yet, but I am programming away while off for the holiday. I'll post some shots soon.

Here is the main window. You choose which menus you want in your project by checking the box beside it. On the right, I give you the option to select the main background automatically for other menus, since that is done a lot anyway. To open you chosen background bitmap to add buttons, you double click in the textbox where the name of your bitmap is shown.

This is cool, so I take it you got the Menu Maker working well?
One quick thing though, is there a way to put a powerpoint style image of game screenshots in the menu with the editor? or is that code only work?
