gas
they're still holding gas prices around 2.55 $ here........and people are gettin angry at each other.........yesterday, at the local gas station......a man from mississippi pulled a gun, briefly, just to get ahead in the gas line.............also....my little town of 8,000 is now hosting ta bunch of those from New Orleans and surrounding areas......so...it's kinda gettin crowded around here....heh.......plus...our governor has authorised free hotel rooms, camp sites and the like for up to 10,000 ( possibly more later) of those who have no place to stay.........
Yeah all over people have been pulling guns at gas stations to either get ahead in line or to hold their place in line.
This is a self created gas crisis though all do to the fear of prices going up. Next time I think they will be smart enough to put a limit on gas purchases immediately rather than wait till it's almost gone to do so.
Fact is though not only did everyone go fill up their vehicles, they filled up their 4 wheelers, etc and every gas container or container that would hold gas.
My truck is almost on E but my bikes tank is full. I'm going to ride it untill things stabilize again. The next thing will be people getting shot trying to ciphon gas out of other peoples tanks. Because they simply cannot afford gas. Especially the working poor because most of them drive older vehicles that burn lots of gas and oil, plus they have little extra money to spend if no extra money which just strains them that much further.

good luck - here is some news that i've found from the net
Good luck - for those that aren't aware, here is an aerial view of New Orleans that I was passed earlier today.
All of the dark areas are water - you can see where the dry and flooded areas are throughout the city.
A larger pic is available here - Click to View (warning large image - 3 Mb Jpg Image)
Here is a 'livejournal' of someone dubbed 'The Interdictor' that is attempt to help to help out in and around the disaster area:
http://www.livejournal.com/users/interdictor/
There is also an 'info wiki' that is being updated as new info becomes available here:
http://wiki.nola-intel.org/index.php/Main_Page
I will continue to post whatever news I can find onto my site and/or this thread. Good Luck Zen...

excuse the rant...delete if you must........
sorry for the rant......delete it if you must......
the reason the response has been so danged slow......is....( get ready for it
) no one cares about us along the gulf coast. From Tallahassee, Florida to Port Arthur Texas....other than Mardi gras and the casino's and the beaches......no one cared about us.......Other than the native american reservations of the Great basin area...this is the poorest area in the U.S.Why? We had casinos....mardi gras...the most beautifull beaches in the world.....but that was it. Get out of the cities....and prepare for almost abject poverty staring you in the face.;In a region where 10.00$ an hour is considered a damned good job....many will never reach this plateau.
We have some extremely talented and smart people here.My best friend, named Eddie, has a measured I.Q. of over 180.But, since he's here....in this place...did anyone notice? No.He makes his own motherboards for his comps from materials he scrounges from junkyards...cause he can't get a job good enough to buy one.( He gets the compy's from cars-----says the best are from fords.....heh.)
I come from a town that is very typical of this area.We have crime. We have drugs, meth and marijuana mostly. And yet...we hold our heads high, as we will while and after this is finished.
We have to kick and scream for what we want and need.....maybe now that a hurricane has taken out the casino's, homes, businesses and killed many people ...someone will notice us.

the frustration continues to build
Hope everyone is doing ok if you are in the area of the Katrina disaster. I've been following it as well as I can and posting whatever links I find onto my website:

The problems continue to build and the overall sense of frustration at the response is just beginning.
I think that the statement by U.S. Rep. Charlie Melancon, D-Napoleonville sums it up pretty well:
