8th wonder of the world?

Post by scott »

in the middle of last year i was looking for a picture of the original playstation for a presentation when i came across sonys new wonder, mabe the 8th wonder of the world, and i had forgoten about it till now, i remember reading about it, sony has kept this realy quite. They call it the GScube, it has 10x the power of the PS2 graphics card apparantly..... wow, no price tag the last time i checked tho, there are several sites about it, search google.

i also remember it saying it had several processors onboard, alot of them, it must be difficult to sychronise them all to work to gether, just imagin what you could do with all that graphics power, blade of grass x billion, and they bend with the footprint, its goin to be more like real life.

------------[EDIT}---------[EDIT]-------------------------------
this was the site i found back then http://www.eetimes.com/story/OEG20000913S0026

sounds like Sony talking trash to make their products sound better. The article you were reading is probably about an early prototype of the PS3. Notice that its from 5 years ago, which is when RF was just getting on its feet. Sony has a tendency to "leak" false information and try to trick people into thinking that what theyre making is that much better (the pre-rendered Kill.zone 3 trailer for instance), and considering they never delivered on their "promises" of a system 10x as powerful as the PS2 in 2000, or 100x in 2002, i wouldn't hold my breathe for this to turn out to be anything more than an unviable prototype or marketing propaganda.

it was done along time ago, but like look at the ff7 film, its comin out in 10 days, thats over three years after the original deadline, but ur most likely right, i anit heard much of it, but it could happen, and what a thing if it did.
this is a site that was done in 2001 and it seems to be more realistic.

(the pre-rendered Kill.zone 3 trailer for instance),
not pre-rendered, Guerrilla(spelling?) games have already confirmed this was actually in game footge, running on hardware less than that of what the PS3 was running on, i don't have the url, but it should still be floating round gamespot somewhere...

there was also talk that some of the other games were pre-rendered, but take the video of alfred molina(Doc Ock) demo, which had all real-time light and effect on display,

but really there is no proof untill the consoles finally show up...

this must have been before they developed the cell architechture, which now they have 8 core processors capable of running at 3.2Ghz each!!! :o

The Killzone 2 (or 3) trailer is one of my favorite game trailers right up there with halo 2 and the warhawk game-300+ planes onscreen at once-.

If they had such a powerful system way back then how come the ps2 is from most in game screenshots so weak.

Do you have any idea how expensive a 16-processor system would cost!?
Sure they could have done that back then, but even today, the cost would probably be in the thousands.
