1. That forum was taken down, due to hackers using it as a launchboard to attack other sites. I think Gekido said he would archive all the old posts for us, but it has;nt been done that I've seen yet. Could be wrong. I agree about the learning part! It was also great for inspiration.

2. RealityFactory was/is based on the Genesis3D engine, http://www.genesis3d.com , however, it is constantly improving the engine with things like stencil buffer shadows, normal mapping, sphere mapping, physics... etc. however, I too think its time for a new engine. this would be an insanely huge undertaking, however. Gekido is making a non-free from what i hear rf "clone" on his new engine, Beyoind Virtual. you can see the engine itself here: http://beyondvirtual.com/

Too old for what is the correct question. AAA game titles? Most definitely.

Learning fundamental game design? Definitely not.

Also even old as it may seem I think a multitude of enjoyable good quality games could be made with RF. I mean Ive been playing Soldier of Fortune and how old is that? Still a fun game though even without amazing graphics or sound.

However if I am to pursue any serious projects I have moved to a more up to dte engine which does away with bsp geometry etc.

We still have all of the files for the old ikonboard forum - I've been trying to figure out the best way to get the information that was there available to RF developers without actually setting up the ikonboard again publically (which will likely result in it being hacked again and causing us no end of grief).

What we will likely do is grab a static html version of the forum, much like we did with the phpbb forum after IT got hacked as well.

speaking of which, I have moved the static phpbb forum back into a web-accessible directory if you are interested.

This phpbb based site had a somewhat good-sized knowledge base that I spent 6 months trying to build up before we realized that phbb was the cause of all our server issues during that time period.

there is some useful info on this short-lived phpbb-based forum if you are looking for more info and/or tutorials using RF.

I'll brainstorm the idea with our sysadmin over the next few days and see what we can come up with - the ikonboard forum had too much useful info for it to just 'go away'...

...i have an idea.
Can you give me a backup of the ikonboard database (old forum) and the phpbb forum (new one)? I will try to set up a local version of the forums. Then I will package it in an installer.
Something like: EasyPhp + Ikonboard + Phpbb
What do you think about?
