Post by wtiger4000 »

hi.. I'm new to RF so i apologies if this question has been answered i've looked on the fourm and couldn't find it... but i was wondering how do I export .act files or .bdy files from Maya.. is there a plugin to convert model files into .act or .bdy... I saw some but they were for 3d max....

thank you

Welcome to the Forums :D
I havent heard of any exporters for maya. What formats does maya export? For example if it exports .3ds or .obj you could use milkshape to build a .bdy file, create animations and export .mot files. Milkshape Gmax, Truegene and 3dsmax are about the only ones to have exporters for RF. Paradoxnj is or was writing an exporter for Blender but that may be some time away yet as he is very busy on the four elements project.

I think you will have to make the skeleton and animations in milkshape although I could be wrong. Milkshape is very easy to use and animations are a doddle. If you rig the model in milkshape using the virgil skeleton you can use all his animations. I think there are abut 102 virgil/nadia animations. Virgils skeleton wasn't made in milkshape though, so it gets a bit messy but it is doable. I did it with the unversal human/woman reasonably well. You can download them and my rf demo talisman from my filefront account in my signature.

first, find out if ms3d can import maya files...
then create a box in maya and see if it can be properly imported into milkshape.
then check if importing animated models work..
if it does, then you can use maya, otherwise look for something else.
It was not Possible to determine the dimensions of the image....

Yes sorry about that. Milkshape does in fact import maya ascii files (.ma) but I don't know if it imports the animations or skeletons, it does look as though it does but not having maya or any maya files I can' try it. Perhaps wtiger4000 could send me a small maya file with animation to try it.

I actually stopped work on that for 2 reasons. RF2 is going to support Blender out of the box and QoD is working on Collada support for Actor Studio which Blender also supports. It would have been a redundant project.
Many Bothans died to bring you this signature....
