Photo editing trouble

I'm trying to make a picture that has the words Phantoka in the foreground, and have a picture in the background. However I can't crop out the background from Phantoka. Here's the image:

I'm trying to take Phantoka from the top left and paste it over the face for a sig I'm doing (not for RF obviously) but the majic wand select only selects small portions.
plz help!

Depending on what program you're using, you can set the tolerance (it may be named differently) for the Magic Wand so you can change how much it's allowed to select.

Using Paint.net I used the Magic Wand to select the letters as Destron stated. Once I had most of the pixels in the letters selected I filled the selection with black and then reversed the selection and filled it with white. That created a mask which I put as another layer. I then proceed to zoom in and add and remove pixels from my mask until the letters were the only thing showing. Below is the result:
