I notice when opening the inventory the world and everything in it will pause, and you won't fall. However, even though you aren't falling, you are still accelerating downwards. If you leave the inventory up a long time while you are in mid air, and then turn it off, you will fall with incredible speed. Minor bug obviously, but just a heads up.
