Forum [Bot] 's?

Post by MakerOfGames »

I am browsing the forums right now and there is a "user" browsing the forum named "WiseNut [Bot]"? I thought it was a new spammer(judging from the name) and looked at the member list to find that that is not a registered member. Also, the name is(was) not clickable to go to a profile section. Is this a member or what is going on here?

Edit: Here is a screen I took of the users online.(The time is from my system clock. Its E.S.T(US)

Yeah that might be strange that I took a screenshot, but this happening really creeped me out.

Don't worry about it. This is a feature of phpbb3. It has a special (predefined) user group for search engine spiders/robots. Since they rarely make proper use of sessions they can distort visitor counts, increase load and sometimes fail to index sites correctly. The separate user group is there to overcome these problems.

I love that feature of phpbb3. You can also use those predefined users and limit what they can see, thus making certain area's show up in like google search, and others not. It took them almost a year or 2 since they announced phpbb Olympus, but it looks like it was well worth the wait. :D
