i think MoG you hit on the head, explaind what i was after, each government would place its most prized possessions in the vault, i want impresive items, not just say weapons, though a legendary sword from japan or something would be cool, im sort of going for a more historical feel to the library, the plane is an good idea however its a little too big, i would say 2.5 meters high and 5 meters wide.

its hard to come up with a question that dont give out too much information and ideas as original concept is hard to come by these days.

it will all be reveald soon :D

i promise.

Ah, ok, then I would say that there would be things like, newspapers that documented big events, like starting wars and tragedies that have occurred. The oldest copy of the bible is one item that would be in there like you said. The Shroud of Turin would be another. Each powerful country would want their flag in there. Maybe even things such as the most advanced cell phone at the time to show how advanced the society was. Probably a sarcophagus of say, King Tut. And priceless pieces of art! The Mona Lisa, and works of Picasso, Monet and Michaelangelo. That's all I have time to think up right now.

EDIT: Got some more ideas.
Musical instruments, like the trumpet, flute, and guitar. Scotland would contribute a bagpipe and other countries their own instrument(lier, harp etc..). Australia could save "outback" technology that most people think of when thinking about roughing it there. Thats all I have for now.
Think outside the box.

I really like the idea of backing as much of the worlds data up as possible. Especially for a game, because with in that data you would have stuff from just about every culture imagined. You would have history, music, ect. Yes all stored with in the database...but that alone would let people know what their history was like.(for an added twist...someone tries to erase some of the history ) Then maybe like you say maybe the countries most prized belongings. I know some of the asian countries make tea, maybe some of their top quality. Maybe a samurai sword like you've already stated. Americans...I honestly can't think of anything really besides the constitution, bill of rights and so on.

There might be, but I just thought those up off the top of my head. I'll see if I can get anything more to help you out.

Below is a link to the National Library of Australia which has an exhibit called "Treasures from the World's Great Libraries". It has a lot of items that I'm sure the world would liked saved.
