It is possible that in addition to an enemy that you see, you hear this? , That if you walk behind the not hear you, but if you listen to the run.

Let me see if I got this correct:

You want to be able to walk without a character "hearing" you, but if you run, the character will hear you. Something like Splinter Cell. Am I correct?

If that is correct, one thing is the angle of vision, but another thing is that you hear, if you walk behind the enemy you do not hear, but if you run you will hear and react.

So are you talking about hearing the NPCs or being heard yourself?

He is talking about sneaking or stealth kills like in Splinter Cell. Jue, I am not sure how to do that. Maybe a pro scripter can help you out here.

Should be able to write a script that checks if the player is with in a certain distance to an enemy, that would be the hearing distance. You might also check if that enemy is visible to prevent the sound from going through walls. If an enemy is found that meets both those criteria and the player is not sneaking then alert that enemy to attack.
