Mega Cool Water Effect (is it a model?)

Post by metal_head »

http://www.comunidad-e3d.com/modules.ph ... ome-effectIt's made in entidad, but I'm pretty sure that if it's made in entidad it can be made in RF,but how is that made?Is it a model with sphere mapping or omething it looks outstanding!

Also check out the falling water,it rotates to left and right, but when the moves the camera downwards and upwards,it doesn't rotate,it only rotetes left and right. It would be really, really great,if this could be made in RF too! Flipbooks rotate to left and right, but rotate upwards and downwards.

It's cool, but it's not how water actually looks like at all. If you look up or down, it doesn't change in real life

I want to use this for the reflection of the windows in Metalpolis.you are right, the water doesn't look like that, but I need this effect for the reflection. If I make the windows mirrors, that will kll the framerate, probably so much that I'll be able to walk through walls :D.

Hey, I found the tutorial. If it's good, I'll translate it if you want :D

¬¬ Apparently you just put SM0_ infront of the names of the texture files you want this effect on, and then in milkshape, modifying the actor, in the materials panel put the exact name of the textures with the SM0_ at the beginning
Although, the effect works better if you have the appropiate-looking texture, for example using "filter/Sketch/Chrome" in photoshop, on a texture

I see,and will it work if I put an SM0_ infront of a texture, but in RFeditPRo (to make this effect on a brush)

OK,so I made a simple cube and put a texture on it,put SM0_ befor the texture's name and befor the material's name.Ok,it working,but something's wrong with the texture's scale or I don't know.
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?m5nomwuwwo5 take a look and see how it is.
Also take a look of the texture.

what should be the size of the texture for that? I really need to make this effect.

I think federico's tutorial for detailed water is nicer, and easier to use. I recommend you taking a look at that. With this, I can't help you.

yes, thanks Matte,I've trid to do that, but it's not really working for me because fredderico has modfied the source for the texture proc and the source of my RF version is different (it's only one file and I suppose his source has file for each entity) so I can't make the water proc slower.Anyway I wanted to do this in my game acltually not for water, but for windows, because my game is a sci fi game and I have a City level with buildings and I don't know how to make the windows...shiny...reflectable I don't know I want them to look futuristic, making them mirrors will kill my game's framerate totally.

Oh. Ok.
I'll try to take a look at how you can do it. (Shiny textures?)

yep,I tried to put an SM0_ before the name of the texture and the name of the material, but the effect isn't good, infact it just changes it's brightness as the player moves and the texture is not visible.

make a transparent cubic brush and put a flipbook on in (though it would be a little hard to position :? )
Over 3 years (has it been that long?) and just now I noticed the day and month of my birthday were switched. Whoops!

Some 2d games I made, haven't made anything in a year though O.o

Flipbooks for windows? Did I get something wrong (because I said above that I want to use this effect for windows).
BTW,while playing Quake 3 in my school,I noticed that the game has that effect, but not on the water, but on screens, metal surfaces etc.
