weak computers ?
Hey I really want to get some stuff in reality factory and right now seems like he best time to try it out !! but I seem to be in a bit of a predicament, I am not at the usual computer I use and I'm wondering can a computer running windows 98 and only has 128 megs of ram run reality factory ? if it can't I'll just wait because I've got the workflow worked out and I know I want to tackle something small enough for a one man job....but if it won't run on something that weak I'll have to wait until I get ahold of a computer thats more powerful...........
Re: weak computers ?
I tink you should wait for a computer that's more powerful.

Yeah, it'll work. The engine is god-knows-how-many-years old. Just don't push it with many polys and bump mapping.

At first I developed my game with my old 350MHz, 128MB RAM PC running Win98. It was a bit of a pain but certainly doable.
Pain is only psychological.
Re: weak computers ?
ok I'll try it especially if I can get RF to run

Re: weak computers ?
Look around, Vista and XP computers are still around for under $400, I just say to avoid any acer product at any cost.
Gateway is nice, especially their sub company eMachines if you have monitor and keyboard you can get a decent $300 computer.

I'm not too fond of eMachines personally. The power supply on mine turned sour and took my motherboard with it. Though if you want a positive spin on that I did learn how to hookup the parts for my replacement parts making it a good learning experience. If you feel comfortable building your own pc I'd go that route instead. You can still get that 300 price range with decent performance.

hmm... the power supply on my eMachines laptop went bad, but did no further damage, I figured it was a fluke. Nothng bad ever happened to my eMachines desktop (though that had parts replaced over time, so they didn't have time to go bad)

If you are getting a serious computer stay clear away from emachine and acer. They both are cheap but they have very low quality parts. I've had to work on more emachines and acers for friends and family then I have any other kind of computer. emachine the power supply seems to be extremely bad. acer the laptops at least aren't stable. Something about them they just seem to lock up and crash a lot. Just my 2 cents.
@Shoujoboy it'll work on that computer but be prepared for some heartache. When I first started with rf I had windows 98 with only 128mb of ram and an old celeron processor. It works and is stable but it gets a little laggy when working on levels.
