BeginFrame failed

Post by metal_head »

Guys, I'm posting this here, because it's really urgent and this is the most visited forum, if I post it in bugs, I may not aquire help, and the problem is really big.
Everything was running well, I was making my game, to do that I need to start and shutdown RF to see what I have done. OK, but suddenly RF just stopped working, it lets me go to the menu, but when the level loads, RF crashes. It all appeared from the nothing, and I don't see something wrong in the .log file:

[ERROR] CGenesisEngine::BeginFrame failed
Do you see something wrong? because I don't see anything, and this happens to any level I try to load :X
I'm using that version with the fixed audio mixers.
In school the game doesn't even want to run, all it does is plays the GENESIS logo and crashes, there I get only this:
[ERROR] CGenesisEngine::BeginFrame failed
It's really strange, even the backup of the game doesn't want to run...everything was working and suddenly it stopped. I though that it could be the driver, but when I switched to opengl, nothing changed. My computer has a problem with the video card, it's Nvidia and Nvidia + Vista = "Display driver has stopped responding and has recovered" in applications using opengl, including equity and milkshape, but I haven't had any problems with RF (well, RF has crashed like that before, but that happens rarely and only once).

I REALLY NEED HELP FOR THIS! Sorry for posting this here, I just don't wanna loose my game after all this hard work. :oops:

Do you have the latest drivers for your videocard? Also, have you changed display settings? Try going from DirectX to OpenGL, or change the resolution, or make it in windowed mode instead of full screen. That's the only idea I can think of right now.
Think outside the box.
To go on an adventure, one must discard the comforts and safety of the known and trusted.

I tried everything you said, I haven't touched any settings. I was just editing my weapon.ini file (a projectile definition) and after I saved it, the game wasn't willing to start. I changedd everything back, so that I'll be sure that it's not from my weapon.ini, but still no result. It's really really strange, everything was running OK, and suddenly it stopped.

EDIT: I tried to run the game on my laptop, and the same thing happened, so I think it's not my PC's drivers, but what can it be, I'm with RF 0.76. I haven't touched anything in the game, I was just editing the weapon.ini. I tried to run the backup of the game (which is from before 3 weeks) and the the same thing happened :X What the hell is going on, this is the strangest thing ,that has happedned to me, RF related. I REALLY NEED SOME HELP
Oh yeah, and older games like Nirhis run without problems, but games, using 0.76 have problems, do you thing that it's the version that causes this?

Collecting more information about the prolem:
I got 4 computers at home:
Two laptops that run on Vista,My PC, that runs on VIsta too and another PC, that runs on XP. The game crashed on all of the computers, so by now, I know that this is not a driver problem.
Also:
All the vistas load the menu, and crash right about when a level is loaded, so even the loading screen shows, but insted of the level to start, RF crashes.
On XP, RF shows the Genesis 3D logo and crashes after that, without even showing the menu. The log file on XP says:

Code: Select all

BeginFrame failed ususlly means you have a texture that is not a power of 2 somewhere. In a new model perhaps?

NOTE:
This question has come up may times before on this forum. Try using the search button between FAQ and Members at the top of the page, it can help with a lot of problems.

well, everything is OK with the models... strange, really, really strange. And the backup doesn't want to run even, and it was running yesterday. I checked everything out, weapons, projectiles, no level wants to run. :cry:

Then you probably didn't undo all changes you made. Also make sure that there are some empty lines at the end of the INI file.

Check all your textures and make sure they are a power of 2 (eg. 256x256, 128x128).
Many Bothans died to bring you this signature....

That was the problem, thanks QoD! That was a life saver!
