First Level

Post by Saberking13 »

I am trying to make my first level. So I click build, click the preview in reality factory box, and then this thing pops up that says "Level compile compleatly sucsessful. Run preview?" Then I click yes and it doesn't do anything. Is it because I only have one room. The tut. said to make multiple rooms. Does that mean in the same folder or different (one .bsp or multiple .bsp's) Also, my normal reality factory doesn't work. I double-click it, and a full screen image says Genesis 3d, and stays for a few seconds. Then it dissapears. Why?(to all questions)

Are you kidding me???? :!: Try starting with "preview does not work" as that is your problem. If you can't figure out something as trivial as that, how are you going to make a game?

Your too nice Bernie...I was about to issue a temp ban. :)

BTW...I issued the search using the words I stated above and found the following link on the 4th page.

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3528&p=31038&hilit= ... ing#p31038

You need to look harder. There is a difference between asking for help and waiting for someone to give the answer to you. If we give you the answer, you don't learn anything. If you find it yourself, you are bound to feel more accomplished and retain the information. We ask you to try looking for answers yourself before you just post questions. Many of the questions you have will be answered by one or more of the following things:

1. Forum search
2. RF Manual
3. Dan Valeo's EBook
4. Tutorials
5. Google

How 'bout to a normal user?

Anyway, I think you guys should give the man a break, especially you paradoxnj. I mean, I would've been offended by your first post too. Of course, that doesn't justify Saberking's post but you have insulted new users' intelligence a couple of times now and I hate to see such behavior on this forum. Especially from a moderator. :!:

It's probably not your level if you can't run the RF demo.

What does your log file say? (realityfactory.log in your main RF folder)

Welcome to the forums, by the way. :)

In other posts on the Genesis forum, Jean Louis and I have asked him to use the search feature also. This is not the first time.

Maybe I was a little harsh, which is why I edited my post above this one to include why I said what I said. QoD and other people provide these tools for people to use. If people do not use them, it becomes a waste of his time. Why should he document anything or host a forum if people are not going to use it. It gets me aggravated to see someone's hard work go to waste.

I don't know what you're looking at but it's definitely not the RealityFactory.log file. The RealityFactory.log file should be created every time you run RealityFactory.exe (in that very same directory). It is a text file that contains information about the order of events of a program run. Open it with a text editor and c&p its contents here. If it does not exists (which sometimes happens if RF crashes before it even gets the chance of creating the log file) open the D3DDrv.log and post the contents of that log file.

Yes this would apply to a normal user too. I should have said especially to a forum moderator.
I do think paradoxnj was a little hard but we have had a lot of this sort of thing recently where people do not appear to try for themselves and I do understand his frustration. I am not saying that saberking was not trying but it does appear that way. We have a search function on this forum and we also have FAQ's and documentation with the program. A lot of the queries we have had recently have been covered in those locations. As paradoxnj pointed out this particular query has been answered dozens of times before on the forum. I also agree with pardoxnj when he says
QoD and other people provide these tools for people to use. If people do not use them, it becomes a waste of his time. Why should he document anything or host a forum if people are not going to use it.

Sorry, I just figured out what you were talking about. It says "[ERROR] Main window creation failure" Doesn't sound very good.... :(
